This festive season, Island Studios is proud to have hosted the production of one of the UK’s most talked-about Christmas commercials: Asda’s 2025 Christmas Advert – “A Very Merry Grinchmas”, brought to life by Curate Films on Stages 5 and 6 at Black Island Studios.

Directed by Dexter Fletcher and creatively led by Lucky Generals, the advert reimagines the iconic Grinch in a heartwarming and humorous journey from festive cynicism to full-blown Christmas cheer. The 90-second hero film opens in a bustling Christmas market, where the Grinch grumbles about “spenny gifts” and “frightful prices” – until the green glow of an Asda store draws him in. What follows is a dazzling transformation, as the Grinch discovers unbeatable value and joy in Asda’s festive offerings, from chicken sticky skewers to Grinch-themed pyjamas.

Filming at Black Island Studios

Offering over 21,000sq/ft of joined studios space, the production team transformed Stages 5 and Stage 6 into a winter wonderland, complete with immersive set builds, dynamic lighting, and choreographed cabaret-style sequences that brought the magic of Christmas to life. The spacious stages allowed for seamless transitions between scenes, from the snowy market to the vibrant Asda store interiors.
