24 Sep Laphroaig x Willem Dafoe: “The Taste” – A Cinematic Ode to Boldness, Shot at Dukes Island Studios
In a whisky world often steeped in tradition, Laphroaig’s latest collaboration with Willem Dafoe breaks the mold. The short film, titled “The Taste”, is a surreal and poetic meditation on flavour, memory, and identity. It is brought to life on the White Stage at Dukes Island Studios, West London.
A Meeting of Bold Spirits
Laphroaig, the iconic Islay single malt Scotch whisky, is known for its unapologetically smoky character. It teamed up with Academy Award-nominated actor Willem Dafoe in a campaign that celebrates eccentricity and individuality. Directed by Tim Pope, the film is part of Laphroaig’s “Unphorgettable” campaign.
Dafoe’s narration draws on childhood memories—like locking himself in a wardrobe for two days in hopes of space travel. These memories metaphorically chase the elusive taste of Laphroaig. His words are interwoven with fan-submitted descriptions from the Friends of Laphroaig community, ranging from poetic to wildly abstract.
Shot on the White Stage at Dukes Island Studios
The commercial was filmed on the White Stage at Dukes Island Studios, a premier production space in West London. Known for its expansive soundproof stage, drive-in access, and U-shaped cove, the White Stage offered the perfect blank canvas. This setting enhanced the film’s minimalist yet evocative aesthetic.
