Madonna’s Confessions II – The Film Comes to Life at Black Island Studios

Black Island Studios was proud to play a part in the production of Madonna’s Confessions II – The Film, the visually stunning short film directed by acclaimed creative duo TORSO (David Toro and Solomon Chase) and produced by DIVISION. Released as the visual companion to Madonna’s latest album, Confessions II, the film premiered at the Tribeca Festival before launching globally on YouTube, generating worldwide attention from fans, media and the creative industries alike.

Spanning six tracks from the album, the 14-minute film blends music, fashion, cinema and performance art into a bold visual narrative that explores identity, fame and reinvention—themes that have defined Madonna’s career for over four decades.

A Production Designed for Scale

Shot over six months across London, Los Angeles and New York, the film required adaptable studio facilities capable of supporting ambitious set builds, intricate lighting designs and a wide range of creative concepts. Black Island Studios provided a controlled environment where the production team could shape each sequence with precision.

Across the shoot, our stages were used and lit with lighting from Panalux to create several distinct environments. The dramatic car crash scene featured in “One Step Away” was filmed in the loading bay serving Stages 5 & 6, transforming a functional production area into a striking cinematic backdrop. Stage 1 became the film’s club and public bathroom setting, while Stage 5 housed Madonna’s apartment, brought to life through detailed production design. Stage 6 was transformed into the expansive meadow sequence featuring dancers, demonstrating how a single production hub could support multiple visual worlds.

An Extraordinary Cast of Global Talent

As well as starring Madonna herself, Confessions II – The Film features an impressive line-up of internationally recognised artists, actors, fashion icons and cultural influencers, including:

  • Sabrina Carpenter
  • Kate Moss
  • Benedict Cumberbatch
  • Gwendoline Christie

Together, these appearances create a unique cultural crossover, bringing together figures from music, fashion, sport and film in a project that feels simultaneously contemporary and unmistakably Madonna.

A Bold Visual Language

Throughout the film, audiences are taken on a cinematic journey that moves between ritualistic choreography, dreamlike landscapes, nightclub environments and highly stylised performance sequences. The production’s striking visual language combines fashion-led aesthetics with cinematic storytelling, creating an experience that extends far beyond the traditional music video format.

Behind these visuals, the studios controlled spaces helped support the project’s artistic direction, giving the team room to manage lighting, sound and logistics across a demanding international production.

Showcasing London’s Creative Production Hub

Hosting a project of this calibre further reinforces Black Island Studios’ position as one of London’s leading destinations for music videos, commercials, television and film productions. With purpose-built stages, extensive loading areas, production offices and unit base facilities, the studio is equipped for everything from intimate creative shoots to major international productions.

We are delighted to have contributed to the creation of Confessions II – The Film and congratulate Madonna, TORSO, DIVISION and the entire cast and crew on this remarkable achievement.
